MYOSITIS

INTRO

• Myositis means inflammation of the muscles that you use to move your body.

CAUSES

• Myositis is caused by any condition that leads to inflammation in the muscles.
• Myositis causes can be divided into several categories
• Dermatomyositis
• Polymyositis
• Inclusion body myositis

EARLY SYMPTOMS

• The main symptom of myositis is muscle weakness.
• The weakness may be noticeable or may only be found with testing.

EFFECTS

• Rash
• Fatigue
• Thickening of the skin on the hands
• Difficulty swallowing
• Difficulty breathing

TREATMENT

• Inflammatory conditions causing myositis may require treatment
• with drugs that suppress the immune system, including:
• Prednisone
• Azathioprine (Imuran)
• Methotrexate

LIFE EXPECTANCY

• It all depends on the person
• The person has to take treatments 24/7
• If the person doesn't take treatment he may not live long
• The years of that person will decrease

YEARLY MORTALITY RATE

• At least 10% of the peole die from it
• They die each year for not taking treatments
