INTRODUCTION
Newton's Cradle named after Sir Isaac Newton is a device that demonstrates conservation of momentum & energy via a series of swinging spheres.This device is also known as Newton's Ball or Executive Ball Clicker.The principle demonstrated by the device,the law of impacts between bodies was first demonstrated by French physicist Abbé Mariotte in the 17th century . The most common application is that of a desktop executive toy.It was also used in early fighter aircrafts.
THEORY:
As the net force on the entire system is zero,the total momentum of the system remains constant.
For a two particle system ,
MU + mu = MV + mv .
Because F and p are vectors, if the sum if the forces along a particular direction is zero, the component of the total momentum along that direction will be conserved .
Procedure:
-Take a Newton's cradle which consists of large no. of identical balls suspended symmetrically such that the balls lie in the same horizontal plane .
-
-Pull one ball slightly away and release it as shown . When the ball 1 collides with ball 2 , it is observed that only ball 5 moves forward and the others remain vertical ,in accordance with the law of conservation of linear momentum .

-The above demo can be repeated by pulling two,three and four balls respectively move in forward direction in accordance with the law of conservation of linear momentum .
