What does it mean?

Do work that you're proud to put your name on

  • Never turn in an assignment that you don't think you did your best on.
  • Work hard in cross country practice to feel good about the workout you've completed.
  • Remember that you must be prepared to take responsibility for the work that you've done, whether it be good, or bad.
For me, it's important to do work that I can be proud to put my name on. If I'm not, then it probably isn't ready to turn in. This can apply to many different aspects of my life, from schoolwork, to cross country meets, to even my chores at home. If it's not something that I can proudly take responsibility for, then I'm not finished working. I think this philosophy helps me a lot and could be very helpful to other people as well.

Be loyal to your friends, family, and peers.

  • Use discretion when talking about other people; don't say anything that could hurt someone else.
  • Respect a person's privacy when they tell you things in confidence; don't reveal things one asked you to keep secret.
  • Be reliable; keep the promises you made, whether it be pertaining to a school project, or a commitment you made to a friend or family member.
I think loyalty is one of the most important aspects of my life. This code is widely applicable; it involves always having my friends' backs, keeping secrets, and keeping promises and commitments. I believe that when people are loyal, they will develop and maintain much stronger, more stable connections with friends, family members, and coworkers. That's why I think it's so important to include this in my code of ethics.

Always consider the effects of your actions.

  • Remember the people that you could hurt or help by doing something.
  • Weigh your options; make the choice that will help you most in the long run.
  • Don’t forget the greater things you want to achieve.
I think that it's very important to consider every option you have to make an informed decision. Even in small everyday choices, like watching an episode of TV instead of studying should be thought out. The effects could and would likely outweigh the other choice. I think one should also think about other people when making a decision. They should make the choice that causes more good then hurt, if any. Always do your best to keep other people out of the crossfire of your decisions.

Persist and commit to achieving your goals.

  • Make decisions that will help you achieve your goals in the long run.
  • Remember the future that you want for yourself.
  • Never give up just because it gets hard.
For me, I have lots of goals and ideas of things I want to accomplish in both the immediate future and the long run. For the immediate future, I hope to maintain strong grades as well as continue to do my best on the CHS cross country team. In the long run, I want to pursue a successful career and live in a big city. I've not yet decided on the specifics, but I want to make sure my options are open by keeping my grades up and being involved in extracurriculars. I believe that I should never lose sight of the things that really matter.
