IT IS HARD TO SEE SOMEONE YOU LOVE

DISAPPEAR BEFORE YOUR EYES

SHE WAS NO LONGER THE PERSON I ONCE KNEW

“As my mother’s disease progressed, I needed to accept changes in our mother-daughter relationship and to understand the emotional and all too harsh transition she was experiencing.

NOTHING WAS MAKING SENSE ANY MORE

"Mom closed her eyes … so as not to hear and covered her ears … so as not to see, and we pretended not to notice.

She ‘knew’ her memory was slipping and feared what that might indicate.”

I DECIDED TO KEEP A JOURNAL

And it took many years before I felt comfortable enough to share it.
The poetry evolved slowly. It was many months before I began to record the difficult journey Charlotte Menter, my mother and the subject of this book, took at the end of her life.
