WAS MADE IN 1831.

FACTS

  • The word tis means are country is for.
  • Samuel Francis smith who wrote the song died in 1895.
  • Samuel smith wrote over 150 hymns.

  • The melody Smith wrote is also used for the British anthem, " God Save the Queen.
  • Today we usually see four verses for My Country Tis Of Thee, but however when he first wrote it included a fifth verse that had a negative tone towards the Great Britain.

  • The way it was wrote it is known as a patriotic song.
  • This patriotic hymn, which is also known as "America," became the first American National Anthem in 1831 before the adoption of the Star Spangled Banner.
  • Many original "autograph " copies of Smiths words still exist, and as he wrote out each copy he was very careful to preserve the original wording.
