NO ROLE MODELZ (J.COLE)

SONG'S OVERALL MESSAGE

  • J.Cole grew up with no role models. He had nobody to look up to and base his life after. His other role model was Uncle Phil since he had no father figure.
  • He had to make his own goals.
  • Even though he had nobody to look up to he made it to being rich and famous.
  • He was also criticizing the girls in his life who didn't pay him any attention before he was rich and famous. And those girls who do now don't understand what real love is so he looks back to TV love.
  • There are not any more role models in rap and it might not ever be saved.

ATRIST BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCES

  • Real name Jermaine Lamarr Cole
  • From Fayetteville, North CArolina.
  • Signed to Roc Nation in 2009
  • Grew up with no dad
  • Started rapping at the age of 12.

RECORD lABEL

HE IS SIGNED TO AND OWNS DREAMVILLE RECORDS

As with many of J. Cole’s songs, Cole reflects on two different juxtapositions in No Role Modelz. The first that he, himself grew up with No Role Modelz because his own father wasn’t around. On the other hand he references how hip-hop as, we know it, is absent of role models and in the same token doesn’t want to be rescued, hip-hop wants to remain static and predictable because it’s selling, it’s easy and offers little to no disapproval amongst the masses.

Personal effect
It makes me think about the issues and becoming a better persona and better role model.

WORLDVIEW

  • I do agree that a lot of people in the world do not have any more good role models to look to. Most people nowadays set a bad example for kids and they do not have the same morals of people who served as good role models.

WHAT DREW ME

  • What drew me was the best of the song and the fact that J Cole always talks about real stuff in his raps.

How does this reflect our culture
It's proving that not enough people nowadays have the right outlook on life and what they should be striving for.

This songs says that whoever listens to it likes music that talks about real life issues.

CHORUS

  • One time for my LA sisters One time for my LA hoes Lame niggas can't tell the difference One time for a nigga who knows Don't save her She don't wanna be saved Don't save her She don't wanna be saved Don't save her She don't wanna be saved Don't save her She don't wanna be saved
