WHAT IS THIS?

  • Muscular dystrophy is a birth defect.
  • This defect was discovered in the 1860s.
  • There are multiple types of Muscular Dystrophy
  • Prevents the patient from walking, causes muscle spasms, and poor balence
  • In 1966, the Muscular Dystrophy Association began researching cures for this defect

CAUSES AND DIAGNOSIS

  • conditions are generally inherited, different cases variate in inheritance patterns.
  • diagnosis of muscular dystrophy is based on the results of muscle biopsy
  • examination and the patient's medical history will help the doctor determine the type of muscular dystrophy.

PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT

  • There is no known cure for muscular dystrophy
  • There is no specific treatment for forms of this defect
  • Major steps are being taken in the research to cure this disease
  • High dietary intake of lean meats is advised in prevention
  • Decreased intake of refined foods is also advised
