MULAN'S HISTORY

• Mulans father was a retired general with poor health.
• He believed that everyone including girls should know how to ride a horse & use a sword., so he taught Mulan these skills.
• Mulan was extremely skilled in Kung fu and swordsmanship
• Mulan stole her fathers armor dressed as a man and then reported to duty.

MULANS FIGHT FEMINISM

• Women were not valued the way men were; Mulan broke the society construction gender roles of her era.
• Think about it: Mulan earned respect for WOMEN by dressing as a MAN

MULANS HEROISM

• Mulan proved herself a hero, despite being of a different gender than the people she was fighting against
• The Chinese emperor at the time rewarded her with money for her family, and a statue stands in her honor

MULAN'S LEGEND LIVES ON

• A poem, entitled the Ballad of Mulan has been written, telling the entire story of Mulan
• Two disney movies were made in her honor
