• Major eruptions 5500, 3000 and 500 years ago
• June 15th 1991, Plinian eruption

ERUPTION EFFECTS

• 857 dead and 1,000,000 displaced, all of province
• 650,000 workers lost their jobs
• 86,000 hectares of agricultural land: wastelands
• Ash stretched as far as North America and Russia
• Decreased global temperature by 1 degree and diminished the ozone layer.

• All the Aeta people were dead or displaced
• Lost homes and culture
• Lost their crops and destroyed wildlife
