WHAT ARE THE MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TWO SYMBOLS?
Graphics are not compatible with action script codes while movie clips are.
Graphics allow more flexibility in terms of control and preferences as to how the symbol should play.
Movie clips do not need the exact amount of frames outside of the scene while graphics do.
Movie clips are constant and cannot change or stop at a specific time or motion.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT PROPERTIES ASSOCIATED WITH EACH SYMBOL?
Graphics, unlike movie clips, have much more features, notably the Loop, Single Frame Action, and Play Once.
Graphics will also display the animation in the stage (exact amount of frames added) when "scrubbed" through.
Although graphics offer more options, it requires more work to animate correctly and functionally.

WHAT DOES ONE OFFER THAT THE OTHER MAY NOT?
Graphics offer more features to control the animations.
Movie clips offer less flexibility, but also less room for mistakes.

The movie clip animates while the graphic does not.
