THE MONGOL AND MAYAN EMPIRES

A comparison presentation by: Josh Kohel, Michael Raabe, and Noah Stovich

Claim:
The Mongol Empire was more successful than the Mayan Empire, because of great war tactics, good leadership, and overall size of the empire.

War Tactics:
Not much is known about Mayan battles, but what is known shows that during Mayan battles the two opposing forces pretty much ran full force towards each other with obsidian weapons. Unlike the Mayans, the Mongols where very methodical and planned out their battles. Most of the Mongols strategies involved fake retreats and trapping techniques which are still studied by armies in this modern day and age. Thus showing that the Mongols had superior war tactics.

CAVALRY

Mongols used the Cavalry to thier advantage on the battle field.

BOW

The Recurve Bow was the most common weapon used by Mongol troops.

Leadership:
Mayan had Kings and Queens compared to the Mongols who had Military leaders. Mongol leaders were more powerful and successful, because the only way you could become a leader is if you had the best military. The most famous Mongol leader is Genghis Khan compared to the most famous Mayan leader who is Pakal the Great.

Overall Empire Size:
The Mongol empire dwarfed the Mayan Empire in comparison. At its peak the Mongol Empire was 12.74 million square miles compared to the Mayan empire that only controlled between 120,000 and 150,000 square miles at its peak. This shows that the Mongol empire was more successful then the Mayan because they controlled more land.
