CLOTHING

  • Deel: an iteam of traditional clothing worn among the mongols
  • Mostly worn by elderly people or on festive occasions
  • Appears similar to a caftan or an old european folded tunic

DEEL APPEARANCE

  • Made from cotton, silk, wool, and brocade
  • Typically reach below the knees and fans out at the bottom
  • Commonly blue, olive, or burgundy
  • On right side there are 5 or 6 clasp to hold the top flap in place

  • Much higher level of recognition then in other societies
  • The Yassa ,major law code, prohibited treating women like property
  • They had rights to property and inheritance
  • Almost equal cultural status to men
  • After the death of the elder man the wife could assume the role of the leader

  • Extends northward into Siberia
