PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MONEY POWER GLORY

LANA DEL REY

LANA

  • Went to Fordham College in NYC
  • Rich father who abused her
  • Became addicted to alcohol at 18
  • She has never really cared what others think of her

The album/song was produced by Black Key's guitarist Dan Auerbach for the recording label Interscope. Dan was not influential in the song's lyrics, only the music.

THE ALBUM, ULTRAVILOENCE

  • Born to Die's sequel
  • The whole album is a harsh portrayal of the world
  • She has finally found what she wants, and will do anything for it
  • She doesn't care what people think, she's taking care of herself

Lyrics
I want money, power and glory
I want money and all your power, all your glory
Hallelujah, I wanna take you for all that you got
Hallelujah, I'm gonna take them for all that they got

The way she sings the lines "I want your money, power, and glory" initially drew me to the song. She combines a scream and a whisper to create a completely new style of singing

She has become numb to the world.

She has given up her pursuit for God and is beginning the pursuit of fame. She said she originally wrote it to mock her haters who claimed that she's only after hits and money, then the song grew on her, and became the theme of Ultraviolence

"Dope and diamonds, that's all that I want."
She wants to feel good and look pretty. She no longer cares about deeper things in life, she wants to get high and have fun.

Money Power Glory is different than most of her work because in most songs she beats around the bush. In it, she is frank and unapologetic. She is out for what she wants.

"My life, it comprises of losses and wins and fails and follies."

The world view:
I agree with the honesty of the song. She sings about her failure, her hatred, and her lust. Although these are not things I like to associate myself with, they are inside of me.

Personally, this song has made me want to be a much more honest person, even if it's cruel, honesty is better. The song is brave, intense, and I love it.

Today people lie all the time. We lie to get ahead, we lie to avoid conflict, the whole world is basically run by lies.

If people were to live by the honesty exhibited in Money Power Glory, the world would probably be either a total mess or a thriving community. Lies can destroy, but being brutally honest can be just as bad
