  • A monarch is a king, monarchy lasted from 2000 to 800 B.C.E. Only kings could rule not queens. When a King died his son inherited power. The Kings were advised by aristocrats ( wealthy male land owners). Soon, aristocrats began to long for the king's power. By 800 B.C.E aristocrats overthrew the King and obtained power in the Greek city - states.
