LESS

  • Quantifier/Comparative: to talk about reduced / smaller quantities, amounts or degree
  • used with non-countable nouns ( eg salt, rice money)
  • Antonym (opposite): MORE

I want more treats not less treats. :(

  • Adjective: describe something that is not as great in size, amount, or importance as something else
  • A lesser man (= a man who was not as strong or brave) might have given up at that point.
  • Antonym (Opposite): GREATER

to take out ( from a bank account)

'ON': Preposition (position)

'Switch ON': PHRASAL VERB

Please switch on the light.

'turn ON': PHRASAL VERB

Turn on the tap and wash your hands.

PASS UP Vs Hand in

  • Pass up:to reject / not take advantage of an opportunity
  • RIGHT: I can’t believe that Jane passed up on the opportunity to study at the university.
  • Hand in: to submit or give something to an authority
  • RIGHT: All essays must be handed in by Tuesday.

Borrow Vs Lend

  • Be careful: personal pronouns like me, you, him and others never come after the verb “borrow"
  • WRONG: Borrow me your book.
  • RIGHT: Can I borrow your book?
  • It is correct to use PRONOUNS after “lend"
  • RIGHT: Lend me your book.
