  • Created the Hershey Industrial School &
  • Found the Penn St. Milton S. Hershey Medical Center
  • Created the Milton Hershey Foundation that helped the community

bACKGROUND

  • Born on September 13, 1857 in Derry Township, PA.
  • Hershey only went to school up to the 4th grade.
  • Worked on his family farm until he went on sales trips with his father
  • Started to get into the candy business around his early 20's
  • First and Second Candy store closed down due to the low profit.

  • In 1887, Hershey established the Lancaster Caramel Company
  • Lancaster Caramel Co. became popular for the famous caramel recipe
  • This company helped Hershey become a established candy maker
  • Hershey sold the Lancaster Caramel Company to help create the Hershey Co.

  • Hershey was determined to create a perfect formula for milk chocolate
  • Hershey used fresh milk to help create the perfect milk chocolate recipe 
  • Through Trial and error Hershey created the first hershey bar in 1900
  • Hershey however didn't create the first chocolate bar, he just improved it.

  • Used fresh milk from his farm to help create the perfect milk chocolate bar
  • Risk Taker: The risk of starting a business with no guarantee of success  
  • Hershey sold the Lancaster Caramel Co. and created the Hershey Co.

  • Hershey believed in himself even when others didn't like his dad.
