MIKE TYSON

Leslie Cortez

A tragic hero is a person of noble birth or potentially heroic qualities. I chose to research Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson was born on June 30 1966 in Brooklyn. He was often the target of bullying. He would use his own style of street fighting to combat the bullying, which led him into criminal activities. At age 13 he was arrested 38 times. He left to go to the Turon school for boys where he was taken under the wing of Cus D' Amato and learns his true potential. Later he becomes the youngest heavyweight champion.

At a young age he was put on the medication Thoraizon. The medication started his drug abuse. His pride got in the way of letting anyone help him.

His fatal flaw (hamartia) was the flip side of his strength. In 1992 Tyson was convicted of sexual assault. He attended the Miss Black America contest, where he met Desriee Washington. He asks her to go with him to his hotel room because he "forgot" something. There he forced himself upon her.

Also in 1997, he bit half of his components ear off. (Evander Holyfield)

For the rape of Desiree he did not accept responsibility. He said she was making it up because he wouldn't walk her to her limo. His actions caused him 3 years in prison.

After biting half of Holyfields ear off, he apologized to him and gave him his ear back. He lost his boxing license and was fined with $3,000,000 and had to serve community service. Now him and Holyfield are good friends.

After losing a couple matches, he retired. He now embarks in a life in show business. He made and authored an autobiography, and he's a boxing promoter.

Mike Tyson says "My whole life has been a waste...I just want to escape. I really embarrassed myself with my life." He started off with a good image, but ended with an image many people would look down on.
