PRESENTATION OUTLINE

THE MIER EXPEDITION

By: Rebecca Reynolds

*The Mier Expedition
was a result of the
Somerville Expedition. *This included the major battle of Ciudad Mier. *Ciudad Mier was fought on the behalf of Texas in retaliation for the Dawson Massacre.

On December 26 , 1842 Texan Troops stormed the town of Mier Mexico for supplies and found around 900 Mexican soldiers waiting for them.

The battle ended in an immense Mexican victory due to Texan surrender. *Many Texan volunteer soldiers were captured and enslaved.

*General Santa Anna commanded that the prisoners be lined up and every tenth person be shot. Once the selected soldiers were shot, the Mexican army gathered the prisoners for a bean drawing.

*Every Texan soldier drew a bean blindly from a sack and that bean decided their fate. *The soldiers that drew white beans lived and the ones that drew black beans were shot on site.
