  • New York
  • New Jersey
  • Pennsylvania
  • Deleware

Growth in the Middle Colonies

  • They grew faster than the other colonies
  • They had more churches than any other colonie
  • Houses were made of wood, mud, and they didn't have windows

Jobs

  • Many people were farmers
  • The women did housework, sewing, and cooking
  • Soil and climate was good for farming
  • Boys learned how to make shoes
  • Girls learned how to sew

Economy

  • They had sawmills and grist mills
  • The textile industry
  • some products: printing, publishing, and ships
  • New York and Philadelphia became busy 

Farming

  • Glaciers from the north brought fertile soil
  • They grew corn, wheat, and tobacco 
  • they were called the breadbasket colony

Clothing

  • cloths were made of cotton and linen

Fun things they did

  • Husking, spinning bees
  • and dance parties

Education

  • they ate breakfast at school
  • they learned to read, write, math, and prayers
  • Parents wanted religion in school
