MICROWAVES

ADAM, JOEY, ALEXA

Microwaves are a type of electromagnetic radiation. EMR is transmitted in waves at different wave lengths and frequencies.

Microwaves have a frequency of about 2.45 GigaHertz and have a wavelength of about 187-10mm. Can be as small as a period or as big as a bee.

In the electromagnetic spectrum, microwaves fall before infrared light but after radio waves.

Mobile phones use microwaves, they can be generated by small antennas. Because they are so small they can't put much power out and need a line of sight. There must be a lot of cellphone towers to keep customers satisfied.

If you have prolonged exposure to these waves, they can be very harmful. You can develop cataracts with a lot of exposure .

Cellphones push out microwaves so keep phone calls short because the microwaves can affect parts of your brain.

Microwaves are used in medicine, industry, science, and consumer goods. They can relieve some symptoms better than drugs, decrease air pollutants, used for satellite communication, and used to heat and re-heat food.

Fun fact- people who work on aircraft carriers have to wear special suits that reflect waves so they don't get cooked by modern radar units on military planes.

IN 1886 A MAN NAMED HENRICH HERTZ TESTED JAMES MAXWELLS THEORY. BY SWITCHING ELECTRICAL CURRENT FROM HIGH TO LOW RAPIDLY AND TRANSMITTING THE CURRENT THROUGH A CONDUCTIVE WIRE, HERTZ WAS ABLE TO CREATE WAVES WE NOW CALL RADIO WAVES!!
