Childhood Michelangelo's mom died when he was six years old. Even as a young child, he wanted to become an Artist. His dad wanted him to go college, but he wasn't interested. At age 13 (after dropping out of school) he apprenticed (was taught by) Domenico Ghirlandaio, who was a painter and artist of the time.
In 1508 he was commissioned, by the Pope, to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. He worked for four years. He painted upside down, on a scaffold, to be able to finish the painting. (The painting was 141 feet long by 43 feet wide.) The paint had nine scenes from the Bibble and 300 people.
My opinion Michelangelo was a renaissance man. he was an architect, painter, sculptor, and poet. Even though his mom died when he was six he still didn't give up his dreams!
