WHAT IS REVOLUTION

  • A forceful take over of a government by the people.
  • Results in a new system of government.

BEFORE THE INDEPENDENCE

  • Year colonized 1520
  • Spain is the colonial leader
  • Spain brought advanced technologies, new religion,
  • Non-native diseases, plants, and animals
  • Enslaved natives, and took almost all sliver and gold from mines

INSPIRATION FOR INDEPENDENCE

  • The Creoles wanted to have more rights
  • Wanted a local government
  • Not everyone wanted to become part of the new religion.

STRUGGLE FOR INDEPENCE

  • Leaders : Mexico: Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla Spain: Franciso Venegas
  • Sep. 16, 1810 Miguel Hidalgo declares war
  • Oct. 30, 1810 battle of the monte de las cruces, Mexican victory
  • July 30, 1811 Hidalgo is executed
  • Jan. 2, 1820 three part proposal accepted year later is official independence

AFTER THE INDEPNDENCE

  • Leader: President Pena Nieto they have a constitutional fed. Republic
  • Spanish and English are spoken
  • 108 million people has a diverse culture.
  • In 2012 Pena Nieto wins in the election and becomes president.
