  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo gave U.S the following
  • Rio Grande border of Texas
  • California
  • Area comprising New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Wyoming and Colorado.

Railroads

  • Increased Communication
  • Increased trade
  • Increased migration

Economic Oppurtunity

  • Anglo settlers moved to Texas for farming
  • In 1848 there was fold found large amounts of Gold found in California and settlers were attracted.
  • Large amounts of land to start ranch or farm
  • Traveling West became easier which enabled more immigrants to come.
  • Many settlers believed in Manifest Destiny

Advantages

  • Superior Firearms such as cannons and mortars.
  • The U.S had better generals who helped win the war such as Zachary Taylor.
  • Infighting among Mexico politics and poor Mexican Leadership
  • The U.S had better resources because of great funding

  • Battle of Monterrey 1846
  • Battle of Cerro Gordo 1847
  • Battle of Contreras 1847

Native People

  • Indian Removal Act 1830- relocation of tribes east of Mississippi River.
  • Dawes Act 1887- granted Native Americans land for US citizenship
  • Many negotiation treaties were signed by tribes to move westward.
  • The US did not support the Native Americans
