And what were the reasons?

  • The countries involved were America and Mexico.
  • The war started because Mexican Calvary attacked a group of American soldiers in the dispute zone under the command of general Zachary Taylor, killing about a dozen.
  • The Mexican Calvary set siege to the American fort along the Rio Grande.

  • Occurred on September 25,1846.
  • 6,640 American soldiers vs 5000 Mexican soldiers.
  • The battle ended in pretty much a draw, both sides had 450 deaths in the end.
  • This affected the war because this was one of the battles that ended in a draw.

THE BATTLE OF PALO ALTO

  • Was fought just north of the present-day Brownsville, Texas.
  • The winners of this battle was the Americans.

  • Took part in siege of Veracruz and won two brevet promotions and became a lieutenant.

  • was one of the foremost Confederate generals of the American Civil War.
  • the principal subordinate to General Robert E. Lee, who called him his "Old War Horse."

ROBERT E. LEE

  • Served as a military general.
  • Commander of the confederate army of northern Virginia in the American civil war.

ULYSSES S. GRANT

  • Served a two term presidency.
  • He served in combat and received two citations for bravery.

KEY FACTS

  • America never lost a major battle.
  • Disease killed 7 times more soldier than the battle itself.
  • Some Americans joined the Mexicans
  • Mexicans gave up about 55% of their land.
  • America only lost 1,733
  • Those who lived in Mexican territory that were given up were forced to be American citizens.
