PRESENTATION OUTLINE
To start off, there are two main types of memory. There is long term memory and short term memory.
Short term memory is the begining of all of your memories. All of your long term memories have once been in your short term memory.
Your short term memory lasts anywhere from 20-30 seconds.
Short term memory stores information temporarily then it decides whether it is dimissed or moves to long term memory.
This process takes less than one minute.
This is a memory test I am doing. I will be doing this test on three people.
I will show the words to the subject for 30 seconds. The subject will then have a minute to say as many words as they can remember.
The first subject was only able to remember 11 of the 30 words on the page.
The second subject got 13 out of 30.
The third subject got 11 out of 30.
The average person can only get 12 out of the 30 words on the page.
There is also short term memory loss.
CAUSES OF MEMORY LOSS
- Medication
- Alcohol or drug use
- Sleep deprivation
- Depression or stress
- Nutritional deficiency
- Head injury
- Stroke
Once information moves from the short term memory to the long term memory, it can remain there indefinetly.
Memories can often change by being merged with another memory.
There are two main types of memories in the long term memory. Explicit and Implicit.
Explicit memories are parts of your life or a fact.
Implicit memories things you do without thinking, like riding a bike.
This is how your memory works.
