PRESENTATION OUTLINE
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SEX AND GENDER
Sex is based on your biological attributes (genitals, chromosomes, hormones, etc).
Generally Female or Male, but can also be intersex (combination of both male and female biology).
GENDER
is an identity based on how you feel in relation to masculinity and femininity.
One's gender identity should not be confused with one's sexual orientation/sexuality. They are completely separate identities.
Sexual Orientation
is an identity regarding who you feel sexual attraction towards, and generally who you desire an intimate, emotional relationship with.
(E.g. Homosexual, heterosexual, bisexual, asexual, pansexual, demisexual, etc)
GENDER EXPRESSION
has to do with how you express your gender through appearance (clothes, hair, make up, etc) and behaviour.
WOMAN
- Means you identify with the more feminine side of the spectrum
- Does NOT necessarily mean you have female biology (e.g. Vagina)
MAN
- Means you identify with the more masculine side of the spectrum
- Does NOT necessarily mean you have male biology (e.g. Penis)
GENDERQUEER
Genderqueer is an umbrella term for anyone identifying as a gender outside of the gender binary.
The gender binary is made up of 'man' or 'woman'. If one identifies as something outside of it, one can all use the term "non-binary".
BIGENDER
is an identity in which someone identifies as both 'man' and 'woman' at the same time, at all times.
GENDERFLUID
is an identity in which one flows back and forth between identifying as 'woman' and 'man'.
AGENDER
is an identity in which someone does not identify as any gender. The individual does not feel like they fit into a category on the spectrum in regards to masculinity and femininity.
TRANSGENDER is generally regarded as an umbrella term that encompasses anyone who identifies as a gender other than the one assigned at birth.
TRANSSEXUAL/TRANSEXUAL is an identity in which someone identifies as a gender other than the one assigned to them & has taken steps to change their physical selves so as to match their identity.
