PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Overview of Meiosis
Meiosis starts out with 46 chromosomes, and over time splits 2 times. Where's Mitosis only splits one time. Because Meiosis splits two times, they end up with only 23 chromosomes.
Interphase
This phase begins with a total of 46 chromosomes in the nucleus.
Prophase
Chromosomes double to 92 and cross over.
Pro Metaphase
The nuclear membrane disappears. And the chromosomes attached to spindle fibers begin to move.
Metaphase 1
Chromosomes align at middle of cell
Anaphase 1
- Separated chromosomes pulled apart
Telophase 1
Micro tubules disappear, cell division begins
Interphase 2
- Two cells formed each with 46 chromosomes
Metaphase 2
- Micro tubules attach to centromeres
Anaphase 2
-Chromosomes pulled apart to 23 each.
Telophase 2
- Micro Tubules disappear and cell division begins
Cytkinesis
In this phase, four cells are formed. Each of them have only 23 chromosomes.
