MEIOSIS

diagramming the phases of meiosis

meiosis starts with interphase

after interphase, prophase 1 happens, where the homologous chromosomes cross over

next, metaphase 1 happens, where the chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell

in anaphase 1, the homologous pairs will separate to the poles of the cell

In telophase 1, the cell pinches in the middle and separates into two daughter cells

now, meiosis 2 starts, with prophase 2 beginning in each daughter cell

in metaphase 2, the chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell

the sister chromatids separate in anaphase 2

In telophase 2, the two daughter cells separated into two, so the result is 4 haploid cells!
