PREHISTORIC SHARK

  • Lived in the time of dinosaurs
  • That appeared about 20 million years ago
  • And it died about 2 million years ago

SIZE

  • This shark is the biggest shark that ever lived
  • It was around 11 ft. across and anywhere from 40-80ft. long
  • It has some of the biggest shark teeth

TERRIFYING PREDATOR

  • It was the top of the food chain
  • Best predator in history
  • Hunted by tearing off the fins of its prey
  • The jaw force is around 18.2 tons of pressure

APPETITE

  • The megalodon crushed, then ate shell fish
  • Also ate whales
  • Snacked on smaller fish
  • They needed a constant supply of food

HABITAT

  • Megalodons preferred shallow and warm water
  • These sharks couldn't adapt to cold or deep water
  • They used coastal areas for nursing grounds

FOSSILS

  • No one knows why Megalodons became extinct
  • Many fossils have been found
  • Was also made of cartilage
  • There was a fossil that had 182 teeth

FUN FACTS

  • Closest relative is the great white shark
  • Can be up to 2 buses long
  • The megalodon had 4 rows of teeth
