Prehistoric medicine dates back to 2000 BC, although it was much different from modern day medicine. It consisted of mostly plants and minerals.

Fast forward to 400 BC, the time of one of the biggest influences in today's medicine, Hippocrates. He was known as "the father of medicine". He began to discover what is going on in the body with certain diseases. He figured out what many disease were such as lung cancer and many others. He then also categorized these diseases.

Medicine has evolved enormously since then. It can be used to cure colds and sickness like the flu. Medicines are also used on a bigger scale to cure diseases like cancer and other harmful diseases.

North America:
Medicine has impacted North America a lot. During the US's wars to gain independence, many soldiers were hurt in battle and were saved by medicine allowing America to become independent.

South America:
South America is known for its tropical environment. It is warm and very beautiful, but this also provides a perfect home for dangerous insects. These insects can carry diseases like malaria and yellow fever. Outbreaks of these diseases have been found in Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, and others. Luckily, South America is highly populated and is equipped with a large amount of doctors and nurses as well as many hospitals. This has saved many lives.

Europe:
Europe is considered one of the richer continents with countries such as England and France that are wealthy compared to most countries. Medicines plays a small role in these countries. It is commonly used to relieve nausea or a headache, but in some cases such as cancer or other rare diseases, these medicines can be the difference between life and death.

Africa:
Diseases such as yellow fever and malaria are very common in Africa because of all the Mosquitos and other insects, so medicine plays a big part in the survival of the countries. Many countries in Africa are poor and cannot afford. This has caused a decrease in population in some areas.

Australia:
Like both North America and Europe, Australia uses medicine mainly for minor illnesses. The Australian government is working to help people with cancer. They are more money than they have before

There are many slums in Asia. These areas are highly populated and very unclean. This allows diseases to spread like a wildfire. It has been found that in some areas one of every ten children die under the age of five. These diseases continue to spread even in our modern society because they can't afford medicine to take care of their population. Other areas of Asia have more money allowing them to maintain a healthy environment.
