WHAT SCIENCE WAS INVOLVED IN ITS DISCOVERY?

• Lothar von Faber invented a machine to cut and groove the pencil wood.
• William Monroe invented a machine that cut wood slats to make pencils.

PROS

• The lead is so thin it's always sharp.
• It allows precise strokes without having to sharpen it.
• With a mechanical pencil you can change the lead type any time you want.

CONS

• A mechanical pencil is a more compliated than a wooden pencil.
• Mechanical pencils are more expensive than wooden pencils.
• Mechanical pencils led snaps easier.
