HOW DOES THIS TYPE OF TECHNOLOGY IMPACT STUDENT/ TEACHER LIFE?

  • You don't have to sharpen your pencil.
  • Mechanical pencils save trees.
  • The body of the mechanical pencils don't snap as easily.
  • Mechanical pencils have thinner led so it's easier/ neater to write.

WHAT SCIENCE WAS INVOLVED IN ITS DISCOVERY?

  • Lothar von Faber invented a machine to cut and groove the pencil wood.
  • William Monroe invented a machine that cut wood slats to make pencils.

  • The lead is so thin it's always sharp.
  • It allows precise strokes without having to sharpen it.
  • With a mechanical pencil you can change the lead type any time you want.
