  • They were the first televised hearings in US history
  • They ended the senators career
  • Created the theory of McCarthyism

  • First hearing ever televised on national television
  • 188 hours of broadcast time
  • 22 million viewers

WHY HIS CAREER ENDED.

  • The televised coverage exposed McCarthy's obnoxious demeanor
  • His reputation was ruined
  • Thus leading to his censure by the US Senate on December 2
