PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MATTER

Anything that has mass and takes up space. Flowers are matter and takes up space.

ATOM

The smallest unit of a chemical element. I chose this image because this is a common image I see when studying atoms.

ELEMENT

Each element is made of only one kind of atom. I chose this image because it shows fire, a common thought element. I can remember this easily.

PERIODIC TABLE

A list of all the chemical elements that exist in the universe. I chose this image because I can easily remember what the table looks like.

MOLECULE

2 or more atoms joined together-same or different element. I chose this picture because it resembles each molecule connected to each other.

COMPOUND

Formed when 2 or more DIFFERENT atoms are joined together. I chose this image because it depicts shapes compacted together.

SUBSCRIPTS

Tells you now many ‘atoms’ of each element for that molecule. I picked an image with ‘H2O’ because it shows me the ‘2’ connected to hydrogen.

COEFFICIENTS

They multiply the number of molecules you are making. I chose a math equation so I remember that the 2 is attached and multiplies everything in the equation.

PHOTOSYNTHESIS

The process by which plants make their own food. I chose a flower because it shows an example of a plant that uses photosynthesis.

CELLULAR RESPIRATION

The process by which all living things (including plants) break apart glucose to release energy for the organism. I chose someone eating because it is like cellular respiration. We use the food and turn it into energy for us.

PRODUCTS

A substance produced during a natural, chemical, or manufacturing process. I chose a picture of obsidian because it is the result of lava and water mixing.

REACTANTS

A substance that takes part in and undergoes change during a reaction. I chose a picture of water and lava mixing because they are both changing to obsidian.
