• Example: 700
• Start the decimal from the right.
• Which is moved two times.
• 7 x 10power of 2

How to Convert Scientific Notation to Standard Form

• Example: 7x 10 power of 2
• Start the decimal from behind the seven.
• Go back to the right two times.
• Which is 700.

How to Add Expressions in Scientific Notation

• Example: 4.5 x 10power of 4 + 1.75 x 10 power of 4
• So rewrite the problem.
• (4.5+1.75) x 10 power of 4
• So, add 4.5 and 1.75 which is 6.25 x 10 power of 4
• Then the answer is 6.25x10 power of 4

How to Subtract Expressions in Scientific Notation

• Example: 6.2x 10power of 5 - 3.5x 10power of 5
• So,  rewrite the problem
• (6.2-3.5) x 10 power of 5
• Subtract 6.2-3.5 which is 2.7
• So, the answer is 2.7x 10 power of 5

How to Multiply Expressions in Scientific Notation

• Example: 5.1x 10 power of 4 x 2.5x 10 power of 3
• Rewrite to 5.1x2.5x10 power of 4x10 power of 3
• Multiply 5.1x2.5 which is 12.75
• Add the exponents 10 power of 4 and 10 power of 3
• Which is 10 power of 7

• So, 12.75x10 power of 7
• Which is not the correct way of writing it
• Move the decimal  1.275
• So, add 10 power of 1 to 10 power of 7
• Which is 10power of 8 which the answer is 1.275x power of 8

How to Divide Expressions in Scientific Notation

• Example: 9.45x10power of 4 over 2.1x10power of 3
• So, change it to (9.45 over 2.1) and (10 power 6 over 10 power of 3P)
• You divide 9.45 by 2.1 which is 4.5
• Then, subtract the exponents which is 3
• The answer is 4.5x10 power of 3
