GROUPING SYMBOLS

PARENTHESES

• One of the most common ways to group parts of an expression together ex. 1.3+27 x (31 - 23)
• They are used to show which operations to do first

BRACKETS AND BRACES

• These are used to group numbers that have grouping symbols ex. 11x[28+ (16 - 5]
• You add parentheses inside the brackets and braces so you know which operation comes first

SOLVING USING GROUPING SYMBOLS

• When using multiple pairs of grouping symbols you need to solve the expression inside of the other symbols.
