PROPERTIES!

  • Communitive
  • Assosciative
  • Distributive
  • Identity
  • Zero product property
  • Inverse
  • Equality properties
  • Substitution

COMMUNITIVE

  • What is Communitive Property?
  • It works like a+b =b+a
  • Or a*b =b*a
  • It doesn’t work for subtraction or division
  • 3+8=8+3
  • It practically says that two numbers can be added/multiplied in any order

ASSOCIATIVE

  • What is the associative property?
  • It works like [6*8]5 = 6[8*5]
  • Or [6+8]+5 = 6+[8+5]
  • With multiplication or division the parenthesis can be moved and you will get the same answer

DISTRIBUTIVE

  • What is the distributive property?
  • It works like 5[8+a] = 40+5a
  • You just multiply the number outside the parenthesis to the ones on the inside

IDENTITY

  • It works like C*1=C
  • Or E+0=E
  • It practically just lets the number keep its same value

ZERO PRODUCT PROPERTY

  • What is the zero product property ?
  • It works like 5*0=0
  • You just multiply a number by 0 so the answer is then 0

INVERSE

  • What is the inverse property?
  • Addition: 5+-5=0
  • Multiplication: 5*1/5=1
  • It just brings a value down to 0[addition] or 1[multiplication]

EQUALITY PROPERTIES

  • What are the equality properties?
  • Addition: 5+5=10
  • Subtraction: 10-5=5
  • Division: 10/5=2
  • Multiplication: 5*2=10
  • This just means that both sides are equal
  • To find a missing part of the equation you would use the opposite property to find it

SUBSTITUTION PROPERTY

  • What is the substitution property?
  • You substitute a number with a letter
  • Like 5+a=10 when a=5

That’s all Folks
