MISSION TO MARS

By: Jess Nakamine

I DECIDED TO EXPLORE THERE BECAUSE...

  • Venus, has extreme pressure that could crush a person
  • Jupiter, is too hot, it has more sun then a sun.
  • Neptune, has very strong wind then any other planet
  • I decided to explore there because its the most safest planet.
  • Mars has a rocky surface. We hope to learn if Mars has life

I want my spacecraft to be able to go fast, have lights so I can see in the dark. The constraints are that how do I make that happen or how do I make it.

Prototype #1

  • Pilots room
  • Extra supplies and fuel room
  • 2 escape pads
  • Closet for spacesuits
  • Thick metal and thermal panels all around.

PROTOTYPE #2

  • Improvements- bigger wings, and the parachute
  • Decisions-thick metal and about a medium/decent size spacecraft
  • A 21 in. Suspension lines for the parachute.
  • 3 escape pads and a closet with spacesuits
  • Other decisions- an engine with a medium sized parachute.

FINAL PROTOTYPE

  • Functions- the parachute has to help the spacecraft slow down when landing
  • Structure- my spacecraft is going to be fast to get to Mars quicker.
  • Functions- I want the sapcecraft to be able to have a layer of something like crash free
  • Structure- the spacecraft will be fast but slow when it comes to landing so we won't crash
  • THOSE ARE THE STRUCTURES AND FUNCTIONS

PARACHUTES

  • Parachutes are important because then they would slow down the spacecraft and it won't crash
  • Parts of Parachute- canopy, suspension lines, and a load.
  • The suspension lines help hold up the parachute, the load helps carry people
  • And the canopy helps the slow down the spacecraft.🚀
  • THESE ARE REASONS WHY THE PARACHUTE HEPLS YOU.

TESTING

  • Control: suspension lines
  • Same: canopy size and material, suspension lines
  • Variable: we were testing the canopy size, material, and suspension lines
  • Results: 21 inches for suspension lines,
  • THATS WHAT MY GROUP CONDUCTED!

PARACHUTE RESULTS

  • Results- my group result was the longest suspension line (21 in) was the slowest
  • Perform- the smallest suspension line (7 in) seemed to always bump into something
  • Details- our canopy size was medium, the material was purple fabric with 21 in suspension line
  • Data- we decided that the 21 in. was the one because it was slow
  • Thinking- when my team figured out that the slowest was 21 in. I thought, more air would go in

I learned and noticed that we, everyone did a lot of hard work. I also learned what we are going to use when go to MARS!🚀
