"If I have seen further (than other people) it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants." -Isaac Newton, 1675
Marie Curie risked her life. I chose to do Marie Curie. She invented radioactivity, that has made a big impact in life. This quote made her believe in not only herself but, other people too.
Her daughter Irene was born in 1897. She won a Nobel Prize Chemistry, for the discovery of artificial radioactivity. She died on 1956, from Leukemia. Interestingly the same disease that killed her mother.
She was born in 1904. She worked as a Journalist, and wrote her mothers biography. She also worked at UNICEF the United Nation Children's fund. Helping children and mothers, in developing countries. Eve died of Natural Causes in her sleep, She was 102 years old.
Did you know that both of Irene's children, both became scientist. Helene, is a nuclear physicist, and professor at the university of paris. She is 88 years old. Her other child, Pierre is a noted French Biologist. He is 83 years old.
Did you know, in 1995 Marie and Pierre Curie's bodies, were take from their graves, just outside of Paris and were laid to rest in Pantheon where only national heroes such a napoleon and Victor Hugo are buried. Marie is the only women their, based on her own achievements.
Did you know that Marie's parents lost their fortune being involved in the Polish Uprisings which was aimed at restoring Poland's independence, because of this, Marie's childhood was very difficult.
She was born Maria. Her nickname was Manya. When she moved to Paris, she changed her name to Marie. Which is a French name. She thought she would fit in more easily.
