EARLY LIFE

  • Marie Antoinette was born in Vienna, Austria on November 2nd 1755.
  • When Marie was 14 she was married to her husband Louis XVI.
  • She was married to Louis XVI in order to keep an alliance between France and Austria.
  • Made her closest friend Princess de Lambell.

RISE TO NOTORIETY

  • She was apart of the French internal and foreign policy although people seemed to think she had way more influence/power than she actually had.
  • She had tried during her time in power to help out with Austria’s interests but was meet with opposition and failed.
  • In the 1770’s Marie was met with accusations/rumors of an affair because Marie and Louis hadn’t had any children.
  • In 1778, 1781, and 1785 her three children were born.
  • Her first son however died 1789 in early June.

Marie Antoinette was most remembered for her quote “let them eat cake” referring towards the starving people in France.
She is also remembered for being very distant from the common people during the French Revolution although this has not been proven.

DEATH

  • Marie Antoinette died October 16th 1793 in Paris.
  • She was sent to the Guillotine during the French Revolution.
  • Her last days were spent in Parisian prisons.
  • Princess de Lambell never left her side even at the end.

Marie’s Legacy is of one of neglect to the people of France during her rule. Which had kicked off when she convinced her husband to resist the National Assembly and refused to abolish feudalism.
