PRESENTATION OUTLINE

1789
Marcellin was born in Le Rosey, France, on May 20, 1789. He was the ninth of 10 children and was given the name Joseph Benedict Marcellin. Joseph was not trained to be an extremely intelligent student, but one day, Joseph told a visiting cleric that he wanted to be a priest.

1817
Champagnat asked a young man, Jean-Marie Granjon if he wanted to become a teacher. Granjon said yes and borrowed money to buy a house in LaValla. Jean-Baptiste Audra's joined Granjon to clean and repair the house, and the three of them moved in together, which was the start of the Marist Brothers.

Marcellin and the other brothers got stuck in the snow on a day of a strong blizzard. The brothers turned to Mary, our mother, and prayed the Memorare in hope of help to get out of the blizzard. After they prayed, they see a light from a lantern that a farmer was carrying, and are guided to safety.

1840
Marcellin continued to do God's work until his health was weakening. Brother François replaced him, and Marcellin eventually died on March 4, 1940 because of harsh back pains. He now watches over us and Mary as the newer generations continue to do God's work.

1999
Champagnat had become a saint on April 18, 1999 because his love and devotion to God was acknowledged around the world. We remember this as being the reason Marist High School is such a strong family to everyone.

2002
Marist Catholic High School opens its doors to both female and male students. Both genders have the chance to share the legacy of St. Marcellin Champagnat. Marist schools around the world have deep faith in God, devote themselves, and build relationships with Mary, our mother.
