DEFINITION OF THE DISORDER

  • Maple syrup urine disease causes the afflicted persons urine to smell like maple syrup

THE SYMPTOMS

  • Loss of appetite,fussiness,and sweet smelling urine

CAUSE OF THE DISORDER

  • It's a genetic defect from birth.
  • It comes from the parents genes

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE BODY TO CAUSE THE DISEASE?

  • Genetic mutations take place that inhabit the breakdown of certain amino acids.

HOW IS IT INHERITED?????????

  • It is inherited by the parent or the carrier.
  • It isn't sex linked
  • It's not on a specific chromosome
  • Recessive because both parents have to carry the disease.

HOW IS THE DISORDER TREATED??

  • It is treated by a protein diet and different medical concoctions

HOW IS THE DISORDER DIAGNOSED

  • By the odor of the urine can confirm the lack of amino acids.
  • Metabolic acids and depressed serum alanine levels.

HOW MANY AND WHAT PEOPLE GET THE DISORDER

  • Common with Amish people
  • The mutation of the disease is common
