off the south west cost of the nouth island

  • due to confusion between this lighthouse and Pencarrow light house

The maori name is Te Mana o kupe

it is three km long

  • such as the Takahe there are 60 on the island

the vella started farming sheep

in the 1830's but however in 1854 all the sheep had to be killed

In the 1820 the ngati toa iwi

led by Te Rauparaha established bases on the island.

There are also whitakers skink

that are only found in Mana island and pukerua bay
