WESTERN & CENTRAL EUROPE

  • Major products are coal and steel
  • The major manufacturing belts are in Germany: Ruhr, Saxony and Silesia
  • Tanks, weapons, optical equipment, cameras, textiles, and ceramics
  • WWII was hard-hitting but factories were built because of America

NORTH AMERICA

  • Major products are coal and steel
  • The northeastern seaboard to Iowa; from the St. Lawrence Valley to the Ohio & Mississippi rivers
  • Chemicals, pharmaceuticals, optical products, electrical appliances, steel, aluminum, & paper
  • Industrialization began in New York and there are ports and rivers from there

THE FORMER SOVIET UNION

  • Major products were metallic ores, coal, timber & water
  • Largest manufacturing belt was Ukraine
  • Machines, medical equipment, ships, chemicals, food, & textiles
  • Rich resources allowed for it to become a major industrial power

  • Most natural resources come from other countries
  • The Kanto Plain which includes Tokyo–Yokohama–Kawasaki metropolitan area
  • Steel, chemicals, automobiles, ships, & textiles
  • Highly skilled labor force in Japan
