WHAT IS MAGNETISM

  • Magnetism, like the electrostatic force, is a field force. A magnetic field can be modeled using magnetic lines of force.
  • Magnetic objects always have a north and south magnetic pole.
  • Magnets strongly attract only to a small amount of materials. (Nickel, Iron, and Cobalt)
  • Magnets can only attract to the opposite side example: North and South connect but North and North don't

MORE INFO ABOUT MAGNETISM

  • Some materials are only slightly attracted to magnets. These substances, such as aluminum, magnesium, sodium
  • The magnetic North Pole is where the earth’s concen- trated magnetic field lines are vertical at the earth’s surface
  • The earth’s magnetic North Pole is actually a south magnetic pole

QUESTIONS TRUE AND FALSE

  • Were Greeks were the first to describe magnets?
  • Some of the first people to discover magnets thought magnets had healing powers?
  • Do magnets have a north and south "pole"?
  • Do magnets have a large group of materials they strongly attract towards.
  • Planet Earth has a North and South Pole
