PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MAGGIE: A GIRL OF THE STREETS

BY: STEPHEN CRANE

HOW DOES YOUR PAST REFLECT YOUR FURUTE?

It has been proven that your current emotions, personality, etc.. Everything you exhibit can reflect your past? It is possible if you had a rough childhood, to end up down south in the future because you have already experienced bad in the world; however it could be different from someone who grows up in a good child hood.

The past is always affecting the present in some way or another. It says in my article that I chose that the traumatic experiences you have faced when you were younger can show up and influence your life even today.

Often times we may feel stuck in the past or we may feel we have this heavy weight we have to carry.

We can always avoid getting stuck in the past hurt. No one is ever stuck.

In this image, this symbolizes how Maggie is. She feels trapped and dragged by her past in which leads her to becoming a prostitute. The past can be dangerous if you do not handle it in the right way. If you don't take matters into your hands, the past can continue to dwell and drag you down.

There's always the wonder of can past experiences lead to bad decsions In the future. It is typical and most psychologists would agree that this is highly possible, but it doesn't exactly make it 100% true.

In the book Maggie: written by Stephen Crane, Maggie did not grow up in a good childhood. She struggled with many things in her life, and in the future, she let the hurt of the past to come into her future. She begins prostitution and is ending up on the wrong side.

Facts about prostitution:
12 years old is the earliest and youngest estimation of those who fall into prostitution

Some prostitutes are wives who escaped from abusive husbands and went into prostitution to support themselves"

In my book, Maggie falls into this path for the same reason. She grew up in an abusive family and her parents and Jimmie drank all the time.
It is known that people who go into prostitution have had a bad past and they want to feel accepted and loved.

2 Corinthians 5: 17

Therefore, if anyone s in Christ he is a new creation, The old has passed away, the new has come.

This verse I thought resonated best with my novel because it is about not allowing the past to become your future. Even though the charecter Maggie ended up the way she did and she choose a harmful decision due to the hurt of the past, this verse is just a reminder that the old has gone and the new is coming.
