Macy's Personal Mission Statement
Next stage: the U
Next year I will be beginning a new chapter in my life at the U of M.
I think goals are a good way to guide my college experience and expect them to change as I go through college.
What are my immediate goals?
Graduate high school
Go to college, pursue either biology or engineering
Do research in college
Meet people at college
"My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style."
– Maya Angelou
goal cont:
Make connections to help me later in life
do things because I enjoy them, not out of obligation
be happy
"Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive."
-Elbert Hubbard
This quote reminds me of a graduate student I worked with this past summer at a lab at ISU. She shared my sarcastic sense of humor and showed me that lab work can be pretty fun.
"Just don't give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don't think you can go wrong."
– Ella Fitzgerald
She was passionate and was so knowledgeable about genetics and biology. I learned the value of being meticulous with your work, and she inspired me to continue research later in life.
My personal mission statement:
As I transition into the next stage of my life, I want to focus on solidifying what my passions are and getting to know my ever developing identity. I want to surround myself with people who I really connect with, who encourage me, and who help me to grow.
I want to travel to new places and learn to appreciate cultures that are very different from our own. Risk taking is important to me, and my next several years should be filled with many unfamiliar situations as I find which walks of life jive best with who I am becoming.
My goals will be guidance in the next phase of my life.
