What It Contains and Composition
- Machu Picchu is made up of more than 150 buildings ranging from baths and houses to temples and sanctuaries.
- The site is about 5 miles and contains more than 3,000 stone steps.
- Machu Picchu was built in a typical Inca style, with beautiful, polished dry-stone walls of quarried granite stone.

This is a picture of Machu Picchu. Archaeologists found ruins of temples, palaces, fortresses, pottery, statues, and all kinds of artifacts when they discovered Machu Picchu. Some Locals from other towns still come here and tourists can come and see Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu was built elevated so it would make it harder for enemies to attack. But 100 years later after it was built Machu Picchu was abandoned after the Spaniards arrived in Peru. Although it is now visited a lot by tourists from around the world.
Machu Picchu is located 2430 m (7970 ft) above sea level on a ridge between the Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu mountains in Peru.
Art work
- The people of Machu Picchu did a lot of pottery and some were found when Machu Picchu was discovered.
- People also sculpted a lot with stone using river rocks to make the shape.
Agriculture
- Studies show that people only planted corn and potatoes.
- Although corn and potatoes were not enough to feed everybody so the Inca must have imported food to Machu Picchu.
- People also planted their crops on the elevated parts of the site.
Religion In Machu Picchu
- The people who lived in Machu Picchu were Incas so therefore the followed the Inca religion. Incas believed in many gods. They worshiped many deities and sacred places. Viracocha was the creator of the Sun, the Moon and the Stars. They believed Sun was the most important servant of Viracocha. To the Inca, Sun was the life saver. (There is also many more ways the Incas practiced religion, this is just an overview.)
Machu Picchu is now the most visited tourist place in Peru. It is known for its amazing architecture and design.
