The llamas were an important animal to the Incas because llamas were fast, could carry heavy weights, and could run / walk for long distances.

The llama was used as a pack animal by the incas. The llama was also used as wool, leather, and meat.

THE FACTS

  • Llamas can travel 20 - 25 miles in one day on flat ground, they can travel 6 - 12 miles in uneven ground.
  • A llama can get up to 300 pounds.
  • A llama can carry 100-130 pounds and easily travel with the load.
  • Llamas are herbivores ( meaning they only eat plants.)

  • Llamas are apart of the camel family.
  • The llama is about 4 ft tall and has a tail about 6 in.
  • The llamas very similar to the camel but they do not have a hump.
  • A llama can run faster than a horse.
  • The llama was used as a source of food (Charqui).
  • The llama was also a source of wool.
