The Modoc People

The Modoc people once lived on both sides of what is now the California-Oregon border.

The Modoc people killed 18 travers at Bloody Point,in east shore of Tule Lake.

THe Troubles War

Modoc began raids on America immigrants.

The Lava Beds

  • the Lava Beds comprise an area of rugged boulders and natural trenches formed by ancient lava flows.
  • This harsh landscape peovided an excellent defensive position.
  • Enabling fifty Modoc warriors to hold off more than 400 U.S. soldiers for four months.

The Modoc War

  • A war of extermination will continue to be waged between the races legislators spent over $1.5 million to waged war on Native people.
  • And in 1854, congress allocated nearly a million dollars to reimburse California for these expenses.

Moving

The lands they were forced to give up in 1860 and the size of Tule Lake after it was drained in the early 1900.
