APPOSOTIVES

  • A noun or pronoun set beside another noun or pronoun to explain or identify it.
  • Ex. My dog, Buddy, ate my shoes and hat.

APPOSOTIVE PHRASE

  • A phrase that comes after a noun or pronoun that contains an appositive and its modifiers.
  • Ex. My friend's car, a white Lamborghini, is the coolest car I have ever seen.

NONESSENTIAL WORDS/PHRASES

  • A word or phrase that is s not needed in a sentence in order for it to be complete.
  • Nonessential words/phrases can be placed almost anywhere in a sentence.

NONESSENTIAL PHRASE EXAMPLE

  • Example(phrase): The student, who has a broken arm, cannot play in the basketball game today.

NONESSENTIAL WORD EXAMPLES

  • a) However, the information was accurate. b) The information, however, was inaccurate. c) The information was inaccurate however.

ESSENTIAL PHRASES

  • Phrases needed in a sentence in order for the sentence to be complete.
  • Ex. The woman who interviewed you was my sister.
